Did you know that one of the best ways to maintain a healthy immune system is by having a healthy gut?
Having a healthy gut microbiome is extremely important for overall health. When our system is functioning at it’s best it has the ability to ward off pathogens, disease, and viruses that may attack our system.
“All disease begins in the gut”
- As quoted by Hippocrates
If you are feeling sluggish, fatigue, or having digestive issues like, bloating, gas, heartburn and acid reflux, then chances are your gut could use a little love!
Here are few simple tips to help get your gut on track:
- Hydrate: Start the day with a cup of warm water. This wakes up the digestive system and stimulates your metabolism. Add some fresh squeezed lemon or a little apple cider vinegar for some added support
- Avoid sugar: I know, this is a tough one…however try limiting your intake. Regular consumption of sugar can cause inflammation in our digestive tract and can lead to a weakened immune system.
- Add prebiotic fibre: Foods such as mushrooms, artichoke, rutabaga, radicchio, cruciferous vegetables and flaxseed contain prebiotic fibre. Prebiotic fibre contains fibrous long chain sugars that the good bacteria eats, which helps to feed the good bugs in your gut microbiome.
- Try adding gut-healing foods: I love adding a scoop of raw sauerkraut to most of my meals as it contains beneficial probiotics or a scoop of organic kefir on top of oatmeal. I also love soup with homemade bone broth as it can be extremely beneficial for restoring gut health and it is easy to digest.
Another great tip is to add a probiotic supplement! I absolutely love Living Alchemy, and they have always been my go-to for any supplement support. All of their products are plant based, fermented and made from real ingredients without the use of any fillers, preservatives, and artificial ingredients.
I have been currently taking their Your Flora FAMILY Symbiotic. This formula is great for everyday support as it contains fermented diverse strains, which also offers probiotic and prebiotic support along with organic blueberries and banana, which are rich in antioxidants and help to calm, maintain and support your gut flora.
A healthy gut, for a healthy immune system!
